LoRa based Wireless Tank Level Management and Monitoring System for Industrial Water Infrastructure

INTRODUCTION

Industrial facilities rely on ETP, STP, wastewater, and boiler water tanks for smooth and uninterrupted operations. Manual monitoring of these distributed tanks can lead to delays, overflows, and operational inefficiencies. To overcome these challenges, a LoRa-based Wireless Tank Level Management and Monitoring System was deployed to provide real-time visibility, centralized monitoring, and timely alerts, enabling efficient and reliable tank management across the plant.

ROAD BLOCK

The company faced difficulties in monitoring and managing tank levels across multiple locations within the facility within 3 kilometer. A centralized monitoring and control system was required with auto/manual operation modes for remote pump control during emergencies. Additionally, local monitoring and control at individual tank locations was required to ensure operational flexibility and reliability. The company tried this system initially for two tanks and wanted to scale it further for total eight tanks.

THE SOLUTION

We proposed –

• Float & dial level gauge (FDG) with transmitter for level measurement and dedicated control panel for pump operation logics and indicator for monitoring alongwith LoRa transceivers at each tank location.

The tank level and pump status data are transmitted wirelessly.

• The transmitted data from each tank location is received at LoRa transceiver fitted in centralized HMI Panel in the control room. This enables real-time monitoring of all tanks level and also generates emergency alerts and allows remote control of pumps in Auto or Manual mode whenever required.

RESULT

The LoRa-based Wireless Tank Level Management and Monitoring System enabled centralized visibility and level measurement and management of distributed tanks.

Following the successful deployment and operation of the system for two tanks, the company expanded the solution to cover all eight tanks. The system improved operational efficiency, reduced manual intervention, enhanced response to critical situations, and provided a scalable platform for centralized tank management.
