FAQ - FBG


1.What are the typical applications/services for which FBG is suitable?

  It is used for large bulk storage tanks of liquids like water, oils and chemicals.


2.What is material of construction?

   It is available in SS304, SS316, SS316L PP or PTFE coated SS


3.What is maximum range for which the gauge can be provide?

   Upto 15 mtrs


4.What is the maximum temperature and pressure limits?

Max. Temperature of  150 °C;  Max Pressure of  Atmospheric


5.Can it be used in pressurized tanks?

   No. Suitable for storage tanks under atmospheric pressure  


6.Does the measurement affected by liquid density?

   Yes..

   It is suitable for min specific gravity of 0.8. For lower specific gravity, consult factory.


7.What is the least count of measurement?

   5 mm with full travel

   10 mm with half travel gauge


8.Is it suitable for interface level measurement (between two liquids)?

   No. Consult Factory.


9.How does the gauge work?

   A float floats on the liquid surface and is connected to a pointer (counterweight) via a wire rope and set of pulleys. The float follows the liquid level and the pointer travels along the    indicator. Pointer position shows the corresponding level on a calibrated gauge board (scale).


10.10. Whether the gauge is customized according to tank height ?

   Yes


11.Is the FBG suitable for fuming liquids?

   Yes..

   Seal pot arrangement is provided to prevent venting of fumes in atmosphere.


12.What is difference between guided and unguided FBG?

   In Unguided construction, the level gauge is provided without guide ropes. It is suitable for tanks containing liquids with minimal turbulence, as the float remains stable without additional support.
   In Guided construction, the gauge is provided with guide wire arrangements to restrict the horizontal movement of the float. It is recommended for tanks where moderate turbulence is present, as the guide wires help to maintain accurate level measurement by minimizing float displacement.


13.What is difference between guided and unguided FBG?

15.Whether the gauge is provided with switching arrangement?

   Yes. Switch in weather-proof enclosure is provided. It is installed on rear side of the gauge board and can be adjusted at required position.


16.What is half travel gauge board?

   In half travel gauge board, gauge board length is half of the standard gauge board, hence pointer travel on the gauge board is half.

   With half travel gauge board, LC count is 10 mm. It is recommended for underground tanks so that gauge board mounting becomes feasible.


17.What maintenance is required?

   Check for smooth movement of float & pointer.


18.How it is installed on tank?

  • Fix gauge board indicator externally on the side of the tank and secure the indicator firmly to the tank wall.
  • Place the float inside the tank and connect it to the measuring wire rope. Tie the float securely to the wire rope.
  • Connect wire rope to the pointer passing it through a set of pulleys to link the float with the pointer ensuring the free float movement.
  • Install tensioners and guide wires. Attach guide wires to tensioner hooks passing it through float hook and tie its ends to anchor hook at tank bottom.
  • Verify proper alignment for smooth float and pointer movement.


19.What information is required to get a quotation quickly?

  • Tank Details: height/depth, measuring range
  • Tank Type- Ground level tank or under-ground tank or elevated tank.
  • Mounting process connection
  • Liquid and its specific gravity
  • Nature of liquid – corrosive, fuming, slurry etc.
  • Operating conditions: maximum temperature & pressure, agitation or turbulence in liquid
